10 Great Local Coffee Shops in Omaha

Josh and I first got into coffee around 2012 while we were in college at UCF in Orlando, Florida. We were regulars at Starbucks and the other chain coffee shops around, but when the first craft coffee shop opened close to campus, we didn’t know what to think. A maple bacon latte? Who had ever heard of such a thing?!

Shortly after craft coffee came on our radar, we were visiting our families back in Colorado Springs when we visited The Principal’s Office, which was (at the time, circa 2013) a cool new coffee shop in a renovated elementary school-turned cooperative space. It was there that we discovered the world of pour-over, and from then on we’ve been hooked on craft coffee culture.

Over the years it’s become a hobby of ours to explore local coffee shops wherever we go. When I initially set out to write this post, it was only going to be my top five favorite coffee shops in Omaha. It was too hard to narrow it down to only five… so here we are with TEN great local coffee shops around Omaha!

My overall favorite coffee shop in town. Great coffee, good food, and kid friendly. They roast their own coffee with ethically sourced beans, make their own flavored syrups and chai concentrate, and have an excellent bakery.

I love their annual membership program, which features a monthly free drink + 10% off every purchase. There are four locations around the Omaha area and my biggest complaint is that there isn’t one closer to my house in Papillion!

This is where I would bring my most passionate coffee friends, and my friends who used to live in Italy. Archetype roasts their own coffee and in my opinion, has the strongest, boldest roasts in town.

Their three locations around Omaha are all beautiful, and a great place to work remotely or meet a friend for coffee.

If you like plants, clean ingredients, and coffee, this is a great spot. A renovated house-turned-coffee shop in Gifford Park, the cozy vibes at Myrtle & Cypress can’t be beat.

I deeply appreciate their commitment to healthy, quality, and locally sourced ingredients, like their house-made nut milks and flavorings. Plants are everywhere (as decor and for sale) plus they also roast their own coffee.

Bonus: kid friendly! They have a bin of toys available for littles to play which has been such a lifesaver when meeting mom friends here for coffee.

This was the very first coffee shop we visited when we first moved to Omaha in the fall of 2019. In 2021 they renovated and expanded their space, which is shared with a houseplant shop, Nodest. Their space flows together seamlessly, and the coffee shop + plant shop environment is definitely a favorite of mine.

They roast their own beans, plus a “for here” cup of pour-over is just $2, which is a pretty rad deal. If you like your coffee with a little BS (get it), this is a fun spot.

A smaller and great quality craft coffee shop in downtown Omaha. House made flavored syrups and a good food menu. Close to Charles Schwab Field baseball stadium, Creighton University, and Millwork Commons.

Zen has been a popular place since we first moved to the Omaha area, but skyrocketed since they began offering coffee and toast flights. I really enjoy the atmosphere here and they always have a fun seasonal menu happening.

There’s a ton of flavors and drink options to choose from here, and there’s something for everyone. They have three locations around the Omaha area, including a drive-thru next to the Trader Joe’s on Pacific Ave.

Modern cafes in historic buildings? Here for it. Cafe Postale serves breakfast, lunch, and coffee in a beautifully renovated mail terminal. Definitely recommend the food here, and the coffee is sourced from Bad Seed Coffee.

Cafe Postale is also a venue and event space, popular for weddings, receptions, and parties. If you appreciate history, good food, and good coffee, this is a great place to visit.

I had to include a photo of my most recent visit to Stories with a group of friends, because it represents the community focus of the Stories Coffee Co. mission. Good coffee, great vibes, and there are five locations around the Omaha area to choose from.

This little gem in the Papillion-La Vista area is one of the newest additions to the Omaha coffee scene in 2023. Love the space and their blackberry vanilla latte.

Another new addition to the Omaha coffee scene in 2023 is The Mill Coffee & Tea! This Lincoln-based coffee company expanded to their first location in Omaha on Leavenworth St. Their location is huge with plenty of seating and retail available.
