Summer Review 2017

Greetings everyone! Back to school season is always fun and exciting for youth ministry workers. Before we jump into the new semester, we’d like to share a brief recap of our summer ministry season.

JUNE

At the end of the spring semester, Josh was still working part-time at Service Credit Union to provide logistics and base access for us. We focused on prepping for camp and working out last minute sign-ups. Just before camp, we received partial logistics (SOFA cards and privilege cards), which finally allowed Josh to leave his part-time job. Without base access cards (aka installation passes), we relied on friends and parents to sign us on base for ministry events.

JULY

High school summer camp at Cairn Brae in Scotland was the highlight of our summer, and an enormous milestone for relationships with our high school friends. If you missed last month’s post about our time with teens at camp, check it out here.

After camp, we capitalized on the wave of teen engagement and held weekly summer clubs and events like bowling, laser tag, and going to the movies. We continued to connect with our teen friends one-on-one for lunch dates, gelato dates, and just good old-fashioned hanging out… but mostly off-base, since we were still waiting for installation passes at that point.

AUGUST

Our Club Beyond KMC staff team has grown tightly-knitted, especially since (almost) everyone is done with their part-time jobs. We took a short staff retreat to southern Belgium at the beginning of August to plan out the fall semester, engage in church history at a Cistercian monastery, honor American history at the war sites in Bastogne, and simply spend time in fellowship and prayer as friends. We believe the most effective ministry happens when relationships are strong among the adult leadership team, and our fall ministry semester will be the stronger for it!

SEPTEMBER

Club Beyond in the KMC entered the new school year with growth in attendance, positive parent involvement, wide eyes, and full hearts. Our kickoff event was Archery Tag, which was a blast, and our regular weekly clubs and bible study will resume this week.

And after 3 months of friends and parents signing us on base, we at last have our base access cards in hand! Praise the LORD!

Please pray:

  • For military teens and their families stationed around the world.
  • For our fall ministry season.
  • For our spiritual, emotional, and physical health.
