The Great American Road Trip

We’ve said our goodbyes to Orlando and have completed our move to Colorado Springs! Our first Great American Road Trip was a blast. We spent a week on the road with our car packed to the brim (including our parakeet Lego), stopped in eight towns, visited thirteen relatives and friends, and drove 3,748 miles. To be honest, we felt pretty exhausted by day five . . . but it was wonderful getting to see our friends and family members that we don’t often have the opportunity to visit, which made the whole thing worth it.

Before we left Orlando, we had a gigantic moving sale which went swimmingly. We managed to sell all of our furniture, Meagan’s car, and the majority of our household goods. Our friends and neighbors relieved us of plenty and helped us truck bags to Goodwill. We even made some extra cash at a few consignment clothing stores to help cover our Chick-fil-a consumption on the road.

Despite the chaos and stress of minimizing our belongings and moving (which would have been nearly impossible without the help of Josh’s parents), the Lord has revealed Himself in ways we never expected. We’ve seen Him move through the meetings we were able to have over the past two weeks between moving, in our friends’ and families’ grace and willingness to support us in this adventure, and by the protection He granted us in traveling safely across the country. When we were outside Pueblo, Colorado last Wednesday night and we had only 60 miles left to go in our road trip, an enormous buck appeared in the middle of the two lane highway. At high speed, Josh managed to swerve on the shoulder to avoid the deer, correct into the left lane, and stay in control of the car. So clear was God’s protection in that moment—that there were no other cars around, that both of us happened to be watching the road in silence at that moment, that the deer didn’t bolt. Praise the Lord that we, even Lego, made it home in one piece.

Now we’re settling into our new life for the next two months in Colorado Springs. Josh’s parents have graciously opened up their beautiful finished basement for us to stay during our remaining time in the United States. Lego especially loves Colorado . . . and his new house!

We can’t believe Christmas is almost here. The time has flown! We hope you all have a safe and healthy last few weeks (or week and a half!) until Christmas.
