Update | September 2015

Fall has officially arrived here in Belgium, with plenty of wind, rain, and sweater weather. Despite the dropped temperatures and grey skies, we’re pumped that it’s fall because that means the school year has begun . . . and Club Beyond is back in session!

We recently held our kickoff event, a Frappuccino Social, where we made homemade frappuccinos for our middle and high school students. It was a blast! We met a lot of new students, had an excellent turnout, and the kids loved our fraps.

Last week, we started our middle and high school clubs. Many of our high school students love small group, so we’re alternating club meetings with small groups; high school club (party with a purpose) will be held once a month with small groups taking place the other three weeks. This semester we will be focusing on the gospel of John in both of our middle and high school meetings, for which we would love prayer.

One of our highlights from last week was chaperoning the Back to School dance. It was a great way to meet more high school students while manning the concession stand, between Meagan getting pulled in to dance with some of the girls and Josh hanging out with the boys while they debated who to ask to slow dance.

Apart from our Club Beyond events, Josh is coaching football this season.  Brussels American School has a very small team (15 guys total), so for the safety and health of the students the coaches decided to collaborate with AF North, another small DoD school team from the Netherlands. We’re so excited to cheer on the combined team, and regardless of how the season goes, Josh has an amazing opportunity for ministry with the BAS boys.

In other news, we’re settled into our home and still adjusting to residing in a foreign country. We love our little town and our house! On our to-do list is to sign up for Flemish classes, so we don’t have to resort to Google Translate when our bills arrive in the mail . . . but for now, we’re just happy to have food, a roof over our heads, and unpacked suitcases.
